The Reverend David Lyall Jones
Dave has spent almost his entire life in New Jersey, serving churches in Pond Eddy, Basking Ridge, and Jersey City. Prior to his ordination into the priesthood, Dave was the Vice President for Student Engagement at Centenary University. Dave earned his undergraduate degree at Montclair State University, his Masters of Divinity at Drew Theological School, and completed courses in Anglican Studies at General Theological Seminary. Recent honors include being named Person of the Year by the Warren Chapter of the NAACP, an Honorary Alum by the Centenary University Alumni Association, reception of the first “Beacon” Award given by the Warren County Human Relations Commission, and granting of Entrance to the Village by the Elders of Brahabebome, Ashanti, Ghana. Dave was ordained a priest by The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith, Tenth Bishop of Newark, on June 9, 2018.
The Reverend Mary Elizabeth Davis
Mary Davis is an ordained Episcopal priest who served as Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chatham, NJ for 10 years. She and her family have recently relocated to Knoxville, TN to be closer to family, and to enjoy the Great Smokey Mountains and a slower paced life.
Mary graduated with a BA in political science from The University of the South (Sewanee, TN), received her MA (Education) from Columbia University's Teacher's College, and her M.Div. from Drew University’s School of Theology in Madison, NJ. At Drew, Mary was awarded the prize for preaching.
Married for 33 years to her college sweetheart, Mary’s call to ordination surfaced while raising 3 boys, two of whom are on the autistic spectrum. She spent a year working with spinal cord and brain injury patients as Chaplain at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and developed a children’s camp specifically for children with special needs. .
Given her experience with people with special needs, Mary's ministry has focused largely on ensuring that all people have access to and are welcomed by the church.
The Reverend Dr. Timothy Mulder
The Rev. Dr. Timothy Mulder has served Reformed and Episcopal parishes in New Jersey and Maryland. He was Associate Professor of Worship, Preaching and the Arts and Director of the Chapel at New Brunswick Theological Seminary. He served as Executive Director of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation and curriculum director for the Iona Collaboration (25 dioceses) for non-traditional theological education in preaching.
His work with the Apostles’ House (for homeless women and children) led to the development of a neighborhood health clinic in Newark along with Rutgers Medical school, and an adult continuing education program called “All the Way Up.” He worked with The General Theological Seminary to develop the Wisdom Year program to give seminarians ministry experience in the field with the support of experienced clergy as mentors.
Most recently Tim has been working with diocesan diaconal programs to help deacons and other lay persons to be effective preachers. Tim and his wife, Linda, live in Gladstone.
Director of Music and Organist
Christopher Harlow-Jennings joined the staff at St. John on-the-Mountain in September 2016. He has held similar positions at St. James’ Church Madison Ave., NYC, St. James’ Church, West Hartford, CT., St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stamford CT, and Trinity Church on-the-Green, New Haven, CT.
Christopher holds the Master of Music Degree from the Yale University School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music and the Bachelor of Music Degree from Indiana University. He also completed a Performer Certificate in Injury-Preventive Well Coordinated Keyboard Technique at Salem College.
Director of Children's Ministries
As the Director of Children’s Ministries, Lynn manages the Sunday School and other educational programs and activities. Lynn has attended St. John on the Mountain since 2005. She and her husband were married here, and all of their children were baptized here.
Lynn has a BA in English from Lehigh University and a MA in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to working as the Director, she was a middle school Language Arts teacher for ten years. She is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Christian Education Directors. Look for Lynn on Sunday mornings, near the Children’s Library or downstairs in the Sunday school hallway.
Lisa began working at SJOTM in 2015. She holds a BA from Boston College and worked in software development in the Boston area for 15 years. Lisa and her family moved to Somerset County, NJ in 2001 where she has raised her two sons. Lisa is excited to be a part of the SJOTM team. Any questions regarding SJOTM should be directed to Lisa. She can be found at the Parish House office Mondays through Thursdays.
Lisa began working at St. John on the Mountain in 2008. She has a BS in Public Accounting from Montclair State University and holds a CPA license in the state of NJ. Lisa had 17 years of corporate accounting experience before moving on to the church environment. She lives in Somerset County with her husband and two children. Any questions regarding contribution records or accounts payable should be directed to Lisa. She is in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Finance Office is located on the 2nd floor of the Parish House.
Director, St. John's Nursery School
Kathy Tober holds a BS degree in Biology from Dickinson College and an MBA in Pharmaceutical Studies from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She spent 24 years in the pharmaceutical industry, working in the area of clinical trial management. Her most recent role was the Global Head of Contracts and Outsourcing at Roche/Genentech, in which she oversaw $2B in outsourced clinical services and managed a large staff across 4 continents.
Kathy has lived in Bernardsville since 2013 with her husband, Peter, and their two children, John and Grace. She is a member of SJOTM where she has served as a member of the Vestry and currently is on the Discernment Committee. She is also a member of the Somerset Hills Board of Education and a former Co-President of the Home and School Association (HSA) for Bedwell Elementary.
Director, St. John's Nursery School
Carey Kane holds a BS in Social Psychology from Lehigh University and an MS in Museum Education from Bank Street College. Carey has an elementary teaching certificate and has spent time in the classroom as an enrichment teacher at Bedwell Elementary, as well as an astronomy teacher for the Newark Museum. She helped open the Liberty Science Center in 1993 and managed its public education department. She later worked for the National Inventor's Hall of Fame, developing a summer science and creativity camp that is offered throughout the country. Her focus has been creating and managing educational programs that foster science education and creativity development. Carey came to SJNS in 2016 as a teacher assistant. She is a trustee on the Somerset Hills Education Foundation. Carey lives in Bernardsville with her husband, Henry, and their three children, Hunter, Elizabeth, and Abigail.
